Fee Aaij (2004) wishes to serve the arts. “Art is what seperates us from the animals!” She is a female Dutch (jazz)pianist, composer and art historian in the making. Both as soloist and bandleader she writes and performs music, inspired by her archetypes David Bowie, Frédéric Chopin and Thelonious Monk. On May 16th she released her conceptual album ‘I Am The Joker’ on ZenneZ Records.

On stage Fee likes to imagine herself as a troubadour rather than a ‘jazz musician’. The common thread is a search for beauty found in sadness, a sadness found in passion. Therefore, her dark songs carry a rebellious spirit and show fervent characters being strong but fragile. She reinforces this realm by using conceptualism and visual aesthetics on and off stage, subtly, no music theatre.

It was the church organ that introduced little Fee to music and in a way the dramatic quality of this instrument has never left her. In her teenage years the tables turned towards rock and a bit later towards jazz. At age 15 she was admitted to the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem, thanks to the guidance of her first jazz teacher Hans Kwakkernaat. Since then she has been tutored by Jeroen van Vliet, René Mauer, Aljosja Buijs and others such as Henrique Gomide, Robert Jan Vermeulen, Lestari Scholtes, Angelo Verploegen, Dion Nijland, Etienne Nillesen, André Groen and Michiel Braam. Besides her own music Fee is also performing and recording with 'Norman Samuels Trio' and 'The Starpeople' featuring Elias Luijten, Min Won, Wiro Mahieu and Qisheng Zheng and session leader of the MonkeyJam Arnhem.rs. Besides her own music Fee also plays and releases with other groups 'Norman Samuels Trio' and 'The Starpeople'.
