Bio

Fee Aaij (2004) is a female Dutch (jazz)pianist, composer and aspiring art historian, based in Arnhem (NL). Both as a solo artist and bandleader she presents Gloomy Piano Music with a strong aesthetic stamp. The common thread is a broken beauty; a search for the beauty found in sorrow and passion. Her melancholic songs carry a rebellious spirit, showing fervent characters. She reinforces this realm by using conceptualism and visual aesthetics on and off stage, subtly, no music theatre.

In 2025 her Joker 4tet released their debut album 'I Am The Joker' on ZenneZ Records. The project draws life from the creativity of David Bowie, the energy of McCoy Tyner, the sadness of Frédéric Chopin and the quirkiness of Thelonious Monk. The indefinable dark sound of the players will most definitely grab your heart and squeeze it.

The last couple of years Fee brought the Joker's realm to unique venues such as De Roode Bioscoop Amsterdam, Podium Azijnfabriek Den Bosch, Théâtre de l’Ile Saint-Louis Paris and Nardis Istanbul. Michiel Braam nominated her band for the prestigious Conservatory Talent Award 2025 and she was a guest artist at Benjamin Herman’s NPO ‘Get In’ podcast and at the injazz 'On The Road’ series. She stood at Booster 2026 and received a curated artist page at We Are Public. Last summer the band played a successful first international tour in Turkey, organised by Chilli Chilli Agency and funded by the Dutch Embassy and FPK.

It was the church organ that introduced little Fee to music and in a way the majestic quality of this instrument has never left her. In her teenage years the tables turned towards rock and jazz. At age 15 she got admitted to the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem, thanks to the guidance of her first piano teacher Hans Kwakkernaat. She finished her studies Jazz&Pop piano in 2025 and was tutored by pianists Robert Jan Vermeulen, Jeroen van Vliet, Henrique Gomide and Aljosja Buijs. Currently she has private lessons in classical piano from René Maurer. In 2024 she also started a bachelor degree in Art History at Utrecht University and she aims to get a Masters in Philosophy of Art.
